Checking in

Dear Bono:

I wrote a song once. It had no lyrics and the words, which I thought at the time were edgy, were a cross between Angelia (Richard Marx) and something by REM. Not that I am saying there is anything wrong with either of those artists. Just that there was a real discordance in my song.

So, I wonder how you do it. How do you find such divine inspiration to draft such eloquent works?

I also applaud you and the boys for wearing your faith so openly. I was not able to do so until very recently. I am happy to call myself a Christian/Catholic now. I also understand the great importance of identifying myself as a follower of Christ and behaving in a way that shows I have adopted the values of Christianity, as well.

Thank you for your shining example.

A Note of Thanks

Dear Bono (and the boys) :

I just wanted to tell you thanks for being such a good friend.

Your music has been such a good friend to me. At moments of loneliness, I have felt surrounded by love. At moments of despair, I have been shown hope. At moments of loss, I have found comfort.

Your words are inspirational and I thank you.

Your inspiration

Dear Bono:

I wonder how you write the beautiful songs you write and how you choose the words that inspire me so. It is amazing to me that your songs seem to reach right into my heart and capture an emotion that is both elusive and fleeting. And all this from someone who (believes he) can't sing (but he's got soul.)

There are certain lines that I like to pluck from your songs when the mood strikes me:

"You've got to cry without weeping, talk without speaking, scream without raising your voice" (disparity)

"What you've got they cannot steal it, no they can't even feel it" (anger)

"Whose to say where the wind will take you, whose to say what it is will break you" (hope)

"In a little while, surely you'll be mine" (love)

Were you in these moods when you created these songs, or are they divinely inspired?

Take care,
